UVU Wrestling Camp 2017 - Coach Lang’s Notes
(links to videos will be added once they are ready)
-Collar tie with head on same side
-Steering Wheel with Right Hand Collar Tie circling to the right, then circle other way, drop step, switch collar tie to triceps pull to sweep single
-Steering wheel to side-step Double as you guide his head down and away
Erkin Tadzhimetov is in his 9th year as a coach at UVU. While in Uzbekistan, Erkin
was a 9 time National Champion and a 3x Junior World place winner. He is currently
one of the National Development coaches for USA Utah Wrestling.
-Crease-Pull to Post and Penetration step to High C
-Crease-Pull to Elbow Pass Snatch (deep step in front and then deep step behind with head pressure)
-Crease-Pull to Elbow Pass, his near leg steps away, penetration step to High C
-Crease-Pull to Elbow Pass to Blast Double
-Crease-Pull to Shoulder Throw
-Crease-Pull to Arm Spin
-Power Fireman's Carry
-Hit a double knee Left-handed Fireman's Carry to the other side when he pulls his target leg out of the way.
-Are you here to participate? Or are you here to Take Over?!!!
-Other positive mindset training.
-Low Single with Lasso Finish
-Mis-direction Low Single with same Lasso Finish and lift trapped foot to his far shoulder.
-3 H's as lines of defense: Head, Hands, Hips
-3 keys to finishing a single on the feel: Move him, Lift his leg higher, attack muliple body parts.
-Club/Collar with trail leg hand as you step in with lead leg, move him, circle out and release tie. Repeat. Then Club/Collar with the same hand as before, but step in with trail leg this time and you will be practically stepping on his foot. Take the Snatch single and finish.
-Triceps pull to Sweep Single
-Triceps pull to fake Sweep Single Mis-direction Double
-High C Crack Down. Hook his elbow when he body locks. Roll over your head. Catch him in tight Dale Stack.
Ethen Lofthouse is in his 3rd year as an assistant at UVU. Previously he won
multiple national titles during his prep career. A 4x NCAA qualifier for the University
of Iowa, Ethen was a 2x All American for the Hawkeyes.
-Cael Sanderson Collar Tie and pull the inside tie down and push across and circle away from the collar tie. Ankle Pick and keep head, driving over trapped foot to put him on that hip. Or if you lose the head (or just prefer to release it), drop to a Low Single Lasso Finish. If he moves that foot away with his weight heavy on the other foot, get heavy on the head and drive him over that far foot for a far side pick to sweep single to secure the backside ankle or knee.
-Cael's collar tie and wrist, circle away from collar tie and get weight on wrist side foot, push wrist to the outside of his leg and sweep. Be sure to pull head down and over to lean him toward his hands.
-Collar and inside tie. Good head position and pressure in as you circle away from the collar tie. You will reverse your lead leg as you circle. Pressure in really hard to create space then drop step as you disappear and hit a left-handed sweep single pulling his head down and over to put his hands on the mat as you finish backside sweep single.
-2-on-1 he pushes on your head. Post on the elbow of his arm that is posting on your head. Hit a left-handed High C.
Luke Lofthouse enters his 2nd season at Utah Valley after joining Coach Greg
Williams' staff in the summer of 2015. He spent 3 years as the strength and
conditioning coach at the University of Iowa and was also an All American for the
Hawkeyes in 2011.
-Iron Man Standup Series
-Counter the wrist ride if he is out to the side pressuring hard to pull our arm behind your back.
-Counter the wrist ride if he is riding parallel and not pressuring as hard.
-Drill mat returns and immediately get back to Iron Man or feet
-Top work: hands in tight with belly hand elbow staying tight and elbow hand in on his ribs. Drive hard continually with your hips to put him on his hands. Use hands to block his knees or chop or spiral and use hips to explode through him to drive him flat with suffocating pressure.

The Warriors have a big weekend this week beginning with a regional dual with rival Cedar. We had a chance to meet them at the Iron Town Duals last week and we're looking forward to the rematch. Cedar is always tough, especially on their home turf, but we've been working hard and expect to do well.
After the dual in Cedar City, it's a quick bus ride home and good night's sleep and then the Varsity team hits the road for Page, AZ, on Friday. This Varsity only tourney has been a team favorite for years and gives us a chance to see different styles of wrestling and get prepared for the post season tournaments that are rapidly approaching.
Daily schedules below:
Thursday, January 19
2:30 PM - Bus leaves Snow Canyon High (DON'T BE LATE)
4:00 PM - Weigh-ins (Scratch weights - 108, 115, etc.)
5:30 PM - JV matches
7:00 PM - Varsity
UPDATE: THE PAGE INVITATIONAL HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER CONCERNS

The JV matches begin at 5:30 PM and the Varsity program will begin at 7:00 PM with a tribute to these senior Warriors and their parents.
One the pagentry is complete, the Warriors look to get another regional win against the Hurricane Tigers.
After a much needed holiday break the SC Warrior Wrestlers are back on the mat tonight facing Region 9 rival Desert Hills in the annual Grapple for the Gold match. This is one of only two home duals for the team this year, so plan on attending and getting loud as we cheer on the Warriors.

After an excited dual against Pine Valley on Wednesday with a 48 to 30 victory, the team turns it's sights to the Desert Storm Classic wrestling tournament at Dixie High School (350 E 700 S, St George, UT 84770). This outing is a true double elimination-style tourney similar to what we'll see at super-regionals and the state tournament. It's great training ground. A victory here is a significant accomplishment.
Simultaneously, there will be a JV and Extra Tournament going on at Dixie Middle School (929 S 100 E, St George, UT 84770. The JV format will be a round robin or scramble feeding into a tournament format.
Here's the upcoming schedule:

3:00 PM - Wrestling Begins
After last match - Weigh-ins for Saturday

Coach Lang's Notes from UVU Wrestling Camp - Session X
Thursday June 9, 2016 1 p.m. - Session X - Clinician Erkin Tadzhimetov (in 8th year as a coach at UVU. While in Uzbekistan, Erkin was a 9 time National Champion and a 3x Junior World place winner. He is currently one of the National Development coaches for USA Utah Wrestling).
Warm up & Dynamic Stretching
Review Moving on bottom-hand fighting-set up a shot, but no finishes yet, this time finish any shot.
-Opponents is in on a high single up on feet...
-Whizzer and grab other arm at the elbow (roll it out away from his body)
-Hip in and lift with both hands as you force trapped leg down and away.
*If he's too strong and won't let go...
-Free hand reaches between own legs and grabs his wrist (Looks like a 2-on-1 with your leg trapped)
-Place your trapped leg between opponent's legs
-Jump so that free leg splits his feet (slightly in front and have your foot pointed straight between his feet)
-Head should drop under his face
-Squat and let your bodyweight pull you both down
-Kick between his legs with your trapped leg as you go down
-Toss him over your trapped-leg side shoulder
-Same grip as just described
-Keep your head up this time
-Jump free leg away from his lock and land facing same direction (hip to hip)
-Donkey Kick between his legs, tossing him to his back.
Pile Driver (haha, not the illegal Fake Wrestling Move!)
-If he won't let go and his head is down tight inside your thigh...
-Trapped-leg side whizzer hand reaches under his waist
-Free hand pushes head down as free leg steps over to pinch his head between your thights.
-Free hand then grips around far hamstring
-Sit and toss him over your trapped-leg side.
-Same side arm releases waist and posts after you land so you can square your hips down and pressure in.
-Finish and settle in for backpoints or the fall.
Single Leg Counter from the mat
-Laces down and extend that leg
-Whizzer on trapped leg side (or block waist with arm) to prevent him him stepping around for angle.
-Free leg step around front and over the top of his head
-Cover his head with your hips and even more pressure with your far hip.
-Grab far hamstring for a hold and continue circling away from trapped leg all the way behind him for the score.
If he steps up to post his far leg...
-keep whizzer/waist block
-Grab post leg at the knee
-Pull it and block waist hard to rack him down to hip that is away from his post leg.
-Once he's on his hip, circle away from trapped leg like before (lift elbow if necessary) and score.
*If you were at the camp, these notes will make sense. If you were not at the camp, the video at the top of this post will make it more clear. Enjoy!
