WOW! Here we are. All of the early morning open-mats, late afternoon practices, extra conditioning, long bus rides, sacrifice, determination and heart have led us to this moment. It's STATE! We have 12 young men who will give everything they have to put themselves in the position to step up onto that podium that says "I am one of the best of the best!" And solidly behind each of these Warriors is a wall of parents, family, coaches, practice partners and teammates that helped get them here and will be there supporting, regardless of the outcome. WE ARE WARRIORS!
Here's all the information you need: Utah High School Activities Association State Wrestling Championships UCCU Center, Utah Valley University, Orem, Utah 4A, 5A, and 6A Boys February 16-17, 2024 A link to a sample packing list will be provided at the bottom of this. One thing that is quite different from any previous year is that our venue is limiting us in the following way: There will be one (1) team ice chest allowed at UVU. Individual wrestlers will not be allowed to bring in personal coolers. I contacted our top representative at UHSAA to petition this and it is a firm policy. This was his exact reply: “This is a rule put in place by the venue. Teams will be able to bring 1 cooler that will remain in the lower level breezeway.” As a team we will work through this and find a way to take care of our wrestlers. We will have ongoing discussions about this over the next few days. Thursday, February 15, 2024 GO TO YOUR MORNING CLASSES! They will have a second round robin tournament on Saturday for all JV wrestlers that were eliminated on Friday. This should allow for a completion of the JV tournament and get those JV wrestlers matches that were eliminated on Friday. This should hopefully get those JV wrestlers 6 to 7 matches for the weekend. Upcoming for Snow Canyon Wrestling: Thursday, January 4, 2024 Home Dual vs Crimson Cliffs The date was January 30, 2020. In a thrilling Region 9 wrestling dual, the Snow Canyon Warrior Boys Wrestling team had a lead of 33 to 29 against the Pine View Panthers. They had one more match. The 285 lb weight class. Heavyweight. With a win, the Warriors would seal the team victory.
Even if the Pine View heavyweight won by a decision of a 7 point margin or less, the 3 team points would have only been enough to bring their final team score to 32, giving the Warriors the win. The Pine View coaches, teammates, and crowd screamed for a win by fall. A pin! Their heavyweight answered the call and stunned the Warrior Nation with a pin giving the Panthers 6 team points. The agony of defeat! The Warriors lost that team dual by a final score of 33 to 35. That was 1,413 days ago. The Warriors have not felt that same pain since that night. They have been undefeated in wrestling duals against Region Opponents since that crisp winter night of Jan 30, 2020. On Thursday December 14, 2023, the Warriors will toe the line against the Panthers in the Warrior Nation’s Main Gym. JV matches begin at 6PM and the Varsity dual at 7:30PM Will the Panthers end the Warriors winning streak? Or will the Warriors show up with a “NOT IN OUR HOUSE” mindset and keep the momentum in their quest for a 4th Region Title in 4 years? Let’s all show up, fill the stands, and make some noise! The Winter Classic in Nephi, Utah, has traditionally been another great tournament to sharpen our skills. We expect nothing less this year.
The Boys Varsity format is a dual tournament and the Boys JV and Extras will be placed in pools and use a round robin format based on their weight. All wrestling will take place at the Juab Fieldhouse (802 North 650 East, Nephi, UT). Here are the details: Friday, December 8, 2023 5:30 AM - Wrestlers meet in our Wrestling room to check in. Wrestlers are NOT allowed to get in a vehicle to travel at this time (not even with their parents). Be quick about it, avoid dangerous situations, no mischief, no funny business, no “meeting up” with anyone. Hustle back to the hotel once done. 10:00 PM - Everyone back in the hotel 11:00 PM - All wrestlers in their assigned rooms with lights out (no tv, electronics, etc). Nobody leaves their assigned rooms after 11:00 PM unless it is an emergency and you notify coaches. Boys JV wrestling will be at the same facility. It will run at the same time as the varsity. We will stop the JV tournament on Friday when the Varsity starts to wrap up, and then pick it up on Saturday morning. JV will be a round robin format on Friday with large pools to get maximum number of matches. On Saturday, for JV they bracket wrestlers per Friday results. Pools will be based on actual weight that coaches entered when entering lineups. JV wrestlers do not need to “make weight”, but they should be approximately the same as their entered weight. A few things to keep in mind: 1- Boys Varsity, Boys JV will all take place in the same facility, The Juab Fieldhouse (802 North 650 East, Nephi UT) 2- The entrance is on the north side of the building, connected to the High School parking lot. 3- The facility has a lot of space, but not a lot of bleachers. There is a central turf area and the wrestlers are encouraged to bring “camp” chairs and blankets and set up on the tarps over the turf. 4- Parking is going to be a challenge. It's limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents should plan on parking on adjacent streets and walking a bit. 5- If you need a hotel or would like an upgrade, there is a new hotel on the south side of town.
