Wrestling Open Mat Workouts/Freestyle & Greco Instruction (after the completion of the high school season)
High school wrestlers are asked to help with our Jr Wrestling Clinics from February 26 through March 21, 2024. Even though the high school season is over, this is a fundraiser that helps cover the cost of our season expenses so high school wrestlers are asked to make every possible effort to be there for the Jr Wrestling Clinics. CLICK HERE for additional details and exact dates & times of these Jr Wrestling Clinics.
Off Season Open Mat Wrestling Workouts every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00AM-7:00AM through the end of the 2023-24 school year (except for Spring Break where no open mat workouts are scheduled).
Additional afternoon/evening workouts may be scheduled from time to time if wrestlers make a special request for additional mat time. Watch for SchoolBinder notifications and the team calendar.
Snow Canyon wrestlers from time to time will do workouts with Southern Utah Elite, Trailblazers Wrestling Club, and other clubs and schools in our region. These additional workouts are not yet scheduled so check back frequently for those announcements.
Competitions/Tournaments
Spring wrestling events are NOT sponsored or governed by Snow Canyon High School, Washington County School District, or the UHSAA. These events are all organized by and governed by USA Wrestling Utah.
[You must have USA Wrestling card (CLICK HERE) to compete in the USA Wrestling Utah Spring Season. It needs to be the "Full Membership" $55 Card. Check with your sanctioned club coach to see which club name you will affiliate yourself with (check with Coach Lang if you don't know what this means). USA Wrestling has a new system that should be simple enough to follow. CLICK HERE for a short tutorial video explaining the process to purchase through the new system.]
We will also direct you to a short article: Spring Season Wrestling Made Easy that will clarify confusion as it relates to the different age divisions, where to find tournaments, questions about your USA Wrestling Card, and more:

Snow Canyon Wrestling Camp @ Snow Canyon High School
2024 dates T.B.A.
Full Printer Friendly Details will be available here once ready
(This will be scheduled to work around the UVRTC Wrestling Camp as well as the All Sports Moratorium)
There are dozens upon dozens of additional wrestling camps out there to choose from. If you are considering going to another camp on your own, it is very helpful to check with your coaches first to ensure that the philosophies and techniques taught at those camps are in line with what we already do. When in doubt, ask. As your coaches, we are not threatened or intimidated by other adults that might do something different than us. But from experience, we have learned that young wrestlers and their families can become very confused when they attend a camp and then start to question EVERYTHING about their high school team and program if there are differences.
Anyone wanting even more attention: Set up private lessons away from the school with anyone on our coaching staff that has the available time to work with you. Plan to pay for 1 on 1 private lessons if you choose that route. It is not required or expected in any way and will have no impact on coaches willing to work with you and give you 100% of their attention and effort during regular team workouts, practices, and competitions.
If you are considering working with anyone else for private lessons, it would make sense to check in with our coaching staff for all of the same reasons that you should be picky on which camps you attend.
*Disclaimer - Coach Lang holds a current USA Wrestling "Wrestling Leader Membership" affiliated with the Southern Utah Elite Wrestling Club. Coach Lang has a clear position in regards to choosing which wrestling club and high school you should align yourself with.
In regards to which wrestling club a wrestler should join in Southern Utah, Coach Lang states:
"I am impressed with and trust all USA Wrestling Utah chartered wrestling clubs and their respective coaches in Southern Utah to teach basic and advanced wrestling skills and to do what is right for developing wrestlers. They are all good. I have excellent relationships and friendships with coaches from every club. You will find strong values of commitment, honesty, and integrity in every club. As far as choosing which club is best for your wrestler; that's easy... which club practices the closest to your home? That should be your choice. Go with that club and commit to and support the coaches. Look for all of the good things and completely buy into their system and philosophies."
In regards to which high school wrestling program you should align yourself with, Coach Lang states:
"My answer is no different than when choosing a wrestling club. If you are trying to decide which school to wrestle for, you are complicating things. Which high school boundary do you live in? That is your answer. Help build and create something amazing right where you are. All of our Southern Utah schools have produced highly successful students and champion wrestlers. Every school and wrestling program in Southern Utah provides unique opportunities. Commit to the program where you live and seek for ways to work harder and build up those around you instead of wondering if your child would have better opportunities somewhere else."

The rules for the international styles of wrestling (Greco and Freestyle) are slightly different from Folkstyle (high school and college wrestling styles). Do not be intimidated with their scoring and rules. Our coaches are experienced with these styles and can work with you to learn the rules and develop those skills.
