With another successful week under our belts, we continually turn to the future. This week we'll tangle with Region X rivals, Crimson Cliffs at this year's first home dual and then test our metal at the Desert Storm Invitational over at Dixie High School. Meet in wrestling room (Scratch +2 - 108, 115, etc) 1:00 PM - Meet in SCHS Wrestling Room to check-in (DO NOT BE LATE) 1:15 PM - Bus departs SCHS (DO NOT BE LATE) 2:00 PM - Coach's Meeting 3:00 PM - Wrestling begins 10:30 PM - Arrive back to SCHS (Approx.) Saturday, December 18 6:15 AM - Meet in SCHS Wrestling Room to check in (DO NOT BE LATE) 6:30 AM - Bus departs SCHS (DO NOT BE LATE) 7:00 AM - Weigh-ins (Scratch +2 - 108, 115, etc.) 9:00 AM Wrestling begins and will run straight through until finish 8:00 PM Arrive back to SCHS Desert Storm is a tough, traditional double-elimination tournament that draws teams from all around Utah, Arizona and Nevada. Some say it's as tough (or tougher) than the Utah State Championships. In other words, placing here is a big deal. Unfortunately Desert Storm will not have a Girls Division this year. For the Boys Varsity they will place the top six per weight class with a trophy for the Team Champion and Team Runner up. On the Boys JV side, they will place the top four per weight class, with JV Team Champion award. Out of the 14 Varsity matches, Snow Canyon won 10! Snow Canyon won 9 matches by Fall compared to Crimson Cliffs winning 1 match by Fall! Snow Canyon scored 15 takedowns compared to Crimson Cliff's 8! Results from Desert Storm Invitational Fri Dec 17-Sat Dec 18, 2021 Highlights -Snow Canyon placed 2nd as a team at the 2021 Desert Storm Invitational out of 27 teams! This is the highest we have EVER placed at this tournament. This tournament is arguably more difficult and challenging than our state tournament as top competitors from several states show up to compete. We often have Utah state champions that DO NOT win this tournament. And Utah top 6 placers that DO NOT make the podium here. With that said, the following Snow Canyon High School Wrestlers made the podium at this tournament. 1st Place - Asher Farr 106 lb Champion! 1st Place - Edgar Renteria 120 lb Champion! 2nd Place - Dominik Benedetto 132 lb Finalist! 2nd Place - Breccan Fisher 190 lb Finalist! 2nd Place - Vince Threlfall 215 lb Finalist! 3rd Place - Kaden Guymon 113 lb 3rd Place - Brayden Jones 150 lb 4th Place - Beau Miller 215 lb 4th Place - Tag Gubler 285 lb 5th Place - Cason Smith 120 lb -10 Snow Canyon Wrestlers on the Podium! New team record for this tournament! -We outscored the next highest 4A competitor Hurricane High School by 102.5 points! -We scored more than DOUBLE the points of region rival Desert Hills (118 x 2 = 236 compared to Snow Canyon’s 239.5)! -Utah has 119 high schools with wrestling programs. Millard High School is currently ranked #5. Millard is VERY good. And they happen to be the only team that outscored us this weekend! -Snow Canyon had the “Most Tech Falls in the Least Amount of Time” out of all 27 teams (3 Tech Falls in 14:04)! -Snow Canyon led ALL 27 teams scoring the most combined Match Points! -Snow Canyon 9th grader Kaden Guymon led the entire tournament with “The Most Tech Falls in the Least Amount of Time” with 2 in 8:28! For the Desert Storm Invitational 2021 JV Tournament, the following Snow Canyon Wrestlers made the medal podium: 2nd Place - Jonathon Linton 120 lb (2nd out of 23 wrestlers) 4th Place - Camden Waggoner 215 lb (4th out of 23 wrestlers) 6th Place - Conner Crump 215 lb (6th out of 23 wrestlers) 7th Place - Teagen Cheetham 157 lb (7th out of 18 wrestlers) 8th Place - Luke Erickson 165 lb (8th out of 24 wrestlers) 9th Place - Andrew Castro 285 lb (9th out of 23 wrestlers) -Snow Canyon JV Wrestler Johnathon Linton led the entire JV tournament with the “Most Tech Falls in the Least Amount of Time” with 1 in 3:00! -Snow Canyon JV Wrestler Camden Waggoner had the 4th Fastest Fall in the JV tournament with a pin in 14 seconds! -Snow Canyon JV Wrestler Andrew Castro had 6th Fastest Fall in the JV tournament with a pin in 16 seconds! -Snow Canyon JV Wrestler Johnathon Linton had the 5th highest number of Total Match Points in the JV tournament with 43!
